We just bought a Nissan Leaf!

That’s right, we just bought a Nissan Leaf!

It is a blue 2012 SL with 1500 miles on the clock.

This is the realization of a dream come true for this tech geek, a dream that I have held on to since 1978 when I was in the sixth grade.  It was then that I first discovered that cars could be powered by electricity instead of dirty fossil fuels.  I was so intrigued that I decided then and there that one day I would drive an EV and now that dream is reality!

Currently, our leaf is powered by conventional electricity from the grid. In the coming weeks I will chronicle the story of the construction of a micro-hydro electric generating station.  This station will be installed on a stream near my place of business and it will supply power to a high school science/environmental education classroom AND charge our Leaf.  Once it is online and the Leaf is pulling most of its power from the hydro station, the car’s carbon footprint will shrink, my power bill will shrink and I will smile even bigger as I drive past the gas station.

Hopefully, through my blog postings, I will be able to help some of you out there decide on getting your own EV and help to become part of the solution, rather than part of the problem.

Much more on the acquisition of our Leaf very soon so please subscribe to this blog and get ready to share in the adventure of EV ownership with us!
